COMMODORES

Formed in 1961 by students attending General Douglas MacArthur HS, Levittown NY.

This blog is an attempt to bring the members of the Commodores back together via a virtual reunion. A volunteer(s) is needed to organize a real reunion. Blogger: John McCormick, johnmc03301@yahoo.com

John McCormick

Forty years later and I have nothing outstanding or outrageous to report. However, I have survived and there is still time. Here is a brief summary of my life so far.

Quit college after my junior year and enlisted in the US Air Force for 3 years and 10 months. I was stationed in Texas, the Philippines ( 2 months in Vietnam) and in Utah. ( Ran into PFC Ray Leitner at the airport at Clark Air Base in the Philippines. He was playing cards, waiting to go to Vietnam.) I returned to college and received my undergraduate degree. Got a job as claim adjuster for insurance company where I worked for five years. Following in the footsteps of Mr. Savage, went back to school under the GI bill and received a Masters degree in Library and Information Science. Worked at Spartanburg County Public Library (SC) and then, starting in 1980 for the New Hampshire State Library, Concord NH. Retired in 2004.

Married for over 33 years to Sharon, an elementary school teacher who just retired this year. Have 2 sons. Mike , married with one son, is an attorney for the state of New York and resides in Syracuse, NY. Matt, after working as a newspaper reporter for three years, is presently living
in Montana, and is headed to University of Alaska at Fairbanks to get his teacher certification.

I still enjoy living, including eating, drinking, skiing, golf, tennis, reading, traveling, the internet, etc.

In 2008 moved to Dunmore PA (adjacent to Scranton) which is two hours from Corning NY where my in-laws live, and 2 hours from the NY area . My brother Dick lives in New Rochelle, my sister Kathy in NYC.

John: What a great idea! I think of you guys often. I just retired last week from the Levittown School District - 40 years. I am still coaching three sports at Wheatley High School and I teach some classes at Adelphi University. My email is: jterrygrace@yahoo.com I will review this page often. I saw Don deiner a few years ago. He was working for NBC Sports in NYC. This is great! I hope the guys get involved. Thanks for starting things up!!

John, Am I glad that you wrote when you did. I got your letter Saturday night, just before we were leaving to go to the movies with some friends. Then Sunday we had a Happy June Birthday party for 24 of our close friends who have either a birthday or Anniversary in June. So, today I have time!
OK, so 43 years have come and gone. So much to tell, so little time to do it. I married my high school sweetheart, Shelley Hochstadt, and we have been married for almost exactly 40 years. Sons Mike (38) and Jason (soon 36). Grad of Penn State University, did some grad work at CW Post, worked for Ernst & Ernst out of college for 9 years and eventually moved to Richmond, VA to take on the Controller's job at Circuit City Stores (Ward's Company when I got there)in 1978. Then came the really good part of my life. In 1984 Shelley and I moved to Virgina Beach and I joined up with three other guys and opened my own rent to own business. 4 guys became 2 of us. We have 19 stores mostly in Virginia, and several other tag along businesses that have kept me pretty busy. But now I am partially retired. I try to limit my work days to 2 1/2 per week most of the time, and love it!

Jason just moved to Huntington Station in May with his wife and beautiful 3 1/2 year old daughter. We are going up there frequently, in fact we will be there in the middle of July for a weekend. I hope to meet up with some of the Commodores in the near future. It should be a blast to see everyone.

Y'all (see how southern I have become) can reach me at Jeffloeb@aol.com
and I hope that this blog is as successful as I believe it will be.
