COMMODORES

Formed in 1961 by students attending General Douglas MacArthur HS, Levittown NY.

This blog is an attempt to bring the members of the Commodores back together via a virtual reunion. A volunteer(s) is needed to organize a real reunion. Blogger: John McCormick, johnmc03301@yahoo.com

Terry Grace

I graduated from SUC Cortland in 1966. I married Jan Westfall, Ken's sister in Aug '66. I started teaching in Levittown at Gardiners Ave School in 1967. I was drafted during that year and got into the Air Force in Aug 1968. I studied Mandarin Chinese in Monterey, California and went to Taiwan for a year with Jan and our son, John. I was discharged in 1972 and returned to teaching at MacArthur. I worked with Bob LaPolla and Ed Schmitt and was Ed's lacrosse assistant for a few years and then took over the head job. It was weird teaching with our former teachers, but they accepted me and I enjoyed it. I joined the USAF RESERVES IN 1979 and spend 23 years in the reserves. I was called up to active duty during Desert Storm for 4 months. I returned to Gardiners Elem. School and began coaching at the Wheatley School in 1981. I just retired from teaching after 40 year in Levittown. The picture of me in the Adirondack chair was taken last week - the chair was my gift from the staff. The other picture was taken today at Sagamore Hill for the 4th celebration. The three children are my grand children from John. I have another son, Christopher and a daughter, Jennifer. Both are married, no children yet. I was retired just five days when I got a call From Adelphi University with an opportunity to teach in their Phys. Ed program. I will be a part time teacher this fall. I have been teaching part time in the evenings for 4 years at Adelphi. I ran marathons for many years, but now I ride my bike and walk - knees are shot. I stay active and enjoy traveling. I would love to see you guys again for some miniature golf and ping pong. I will keep in touch. Terry Grace

Ray Leitner

Ingrid Leitner, wife of Ray, responded to my letter via e-mail. She stated that Ray passed away in April 2003. I did write back to her, thanking her for responding and asking if she would not mind sending me some details of Ray's life.

Ingrid also wrote that they saw Don Diener in 1996 but does not know his present address.

OK, so 43 years have come and gone. So much to tell, so little time to do it.

I married my high school sweetheart, Shelley Hochstadt, and we have been married for almost exactly 40 years. Sons Mike (38) and Jason (soon 36).

Grad of Penn State University, did some grad work at CW Post, worked for Ernst & Ernst out of college for 9 years and eventually moved to Richmond, VA to take on the Controller's job at Circuit City Stores (Ward's Company when I got there)in 1978. Then came the really good part of my life.

In 1984 Shelley and I moved to Virgina Beach and I joined up with three other guys and opened my own rent to own business. 4 guys became 2 of us. We have 19 stores mostly in Virginia, and several other tag along businesses that have kept me pretty busy. But now I am partially retired. I try to limit my work days to 2 1/2 per week most of the time, and love it!

Y'all (see how southern I have become) can reach me at Jeffloeb@aol.comand I hope that this blog is as successful as I believe it will be.
